In the final seconds, sheer ecstasy erupted for Chelsea and caretaker boss Calum McFarlane as Enzo Fernández bundled in a last-gasp equaliser. The goal left Pep Guardiola ranting in frustration and provided the temporary Chelsea manager a career-defining moment. On paper, Guardiola versus McFarlane was the Premier League's most pronounced managerial mismatch in class, making the recollection of Fernández's pivotal intervention one to warm the 40-year-old throughout his career.

A Stark Contrast in Pedigree

On the City bench stood the generation's pre-eminent figure, a man with an unparalleled CV for elite clubs Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City, taking charge of his 1,012th match. In the opposite technical area, was a former coach at non-league sides Croydon and Whyteleafe, who had worked in City's own academy and stepped up to make his first-team debut after being seconded from his regular role guiding Chelsea's youth teams.
